“Two more ships for OPUS”
On 9th May the weather gods were pleased providing a perfect spring day as OPUS MARINE was
hosting the naming ceremony for its two newbuilding Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV) at Wilhelmshaven.
The vessels were given the names „PRESTO“ and „VIVACE“ as per OPUS tradition after classical
musical movements. They are flying the German flag and represent the latest developments in the
Offshore CTV industry being the most capable and performant CTVs in Europe. They are identical
sister vessels of the 26m StratCat series being built in Vietnam by Strategic Marine and can
comfortably carry up to 24 passengers, 30 tons of cargo or 35.000 liters of fuel.
„PRESTO“ and „VIVACE“ are featuring four individually switchable main engines (Caterpillar C18
Acert) and four Hamilton Water Jets that allow first class maneuvering capabilities, economic fuel
consumption and 30+ knots maximum speed. Both vessels will be equipped with Palfinger PK 23500 marine
cranes for loading/unloading and cargo operations on the ships’ fore decks. Optionally an A-frame for ROV
works on the aft deck can be added with the respective foundations already pre-installed.
Both vessels have commenced their first charters directly after the ceremonies.
The god mothers to them are Mrs. Daniela Messer, sister of OPUS MARINE founder and Managing
Director Mr. Bernhard Messer and Mrs. Helle Scholer wife of the Danish vessel owning partner Mr.
During his speech at the celebrations held at Jade Dienst GmbH the lord mayor of the city of
Wilhelmshaven - home port of CTV „VIVACE“ - pointed out the recent positive developments of the
port activities related to the offshore industry and welcomed the decision of OPUS MARINE to
operate their two new vessels under German flag which is a positive accent against the ongoing
trend of continuously decreasing numbers of German flag vessels.
